You could always play this video (Now I"m The One That's Cool - The Guild) for him when you get home... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFhgupR565Q
Looking forward to sharing (some) of these for my young one when she's older. Gotta hold some back to maintain the fatherly mystique. Great work, looking forward to getting the book!
I came back to this comic, finally understood it, and decided to check the comments to see if anyone else had been confused. I had forgotten that it was me, I didn't get it. I think what was really confusing was boba fett. He didn't have parents, since he was a clone - the rest of them were killed tragically.
You're all wrong about the meaning of the joke. It's not that the fictional characters all have dead parents, it's that the sand box is full of a bunch of dorks in superhero costumes.

Very subtle, but very nice. That's a horrible price to pay to be "cool".

Probably the first lunarbaboon comic I don't understand.
@rico the kids starting from the top are Harry Potter, Superman, Batman and Boba Fett in clockwise order. Hope that helps.
Their parents are all dead.
Rico,
None of those fictional characters have parents.
@Rico, all the kids in the sandbox lost their parents.

*****SPOILERS*****
Something something about their parents.
All four "cool kids" have lost their parents, so I'm going to guess the secret is to have your parents die in some tragic way.
Their parents are dead.
Seriously, normally I don't care if I don't get a joke, but this one is driving me crazy!
Superman, Batman, Bobba Fett and Harry Potter. They're all orphans/fatherless.
I have no idea how to reply or if you can , but just incase you come back rico, i think its cause theyre all orphans?
Rico, it took me a bit to get it too. They are all fictional characters whose parents have died.
